Transition Week Empowers Year 10 Students with Essential Skills for Success in GCSEs and Beyond

The start of a new school year presents students with numerous new challenges and changes to their learning. These are more apparent to students moving into Year 10, as this is the time when they begin their GCSE studies and preparations for moving on to college.

To help students face the demands of joining Year 10, the first week of the new academic year was dedicated as Transition Week. During the week, in all lessons across the curriculum, students focused on activities that will help them with the transition between KS3 and KS4.

This new initiative at the Academy saw the week conclude with a special Enrichment Day. During the day, students attended four bespoke sessions that were designed to better equip them for the study of their GCSE subjects. Workshop sessions included Time Management, Revision Skills, AI and its application in educational settings, and Stress Management and Coping Strategies.

The day included a presentation by Rob Crookes, our C&K Careers Adviser, who informed the students about the Post-16 options available to them in the future.

Following the workshops and presentation, students were then given the opportunity to speak to representatives from local colleges during a 'mini–Careers Fair'.

We are most grateful to the following for their support at this event: Rob Crookes of C&K Careers, Wakefield College, Kirklees College, Heart of Yorkshire Education Group, Greenhead College, Shelley College and Accord/Ossett Sixth Form.

The Transition Week was organised by Mr O'Hara and Mrs Roberts, with the Enrichment Day organised by Miss Walker. The activities and events across the whole week were a huge success, with students learning valuable skills to help them over the next two years and beyond.
