Celebrating our First-Ever Graduation Ceremony as Year 9 Students Transition to GCSE and BTEC Courses
As students reached the end of Year 9, we hosted our first-ever 'Graduation' event at the Academy to mark their transition to GCSE or BTEC courses, which they will undertake in Years 10 and 11.
The event held at the Academy recognised students for their hard work and good conduct. Parents and family members were also invited to attend the event, allowing them to watch the graduation ceremony.
Students who successfully qualified for graduation wore academic gowns and mortarboards (the mortarboard is the name given to the hat worn at graduation ceremonies).
Wearing their academic dress in recognition of their achievements, the students walked in procession into the main hall, where they took their seats on stage. Deputy Headteacher Mrs Ali welcomed them to the event.
In his keynote speech, Headteacher Mr Burton spoke to the students about the importance of their support network and how family, friends, peers, and school staff had provided them with support enabling their personal growth and development.
Encouraging the students to continue striving for success in their future studies, Mr Burton told the students, "You have made a good start in school, and we want you to carry on being nice and working hard."
He then presented each student with a scroll in acknowledgement of their graduation before the formal part of the event was closed by Mr Garside, Student Manager.
Students and guests were then able to socialise over a buffet supper served in the dining hall and take photos in their academic dress with friends and family.
