  • Alpine Adventure: Year 10 students excel during work experience visit at Morzine, France

    In an exciting and enriching opportunity, a group of Year 10 students from the Academy have been participating in a work experience visit at the Alpine Language School in the picturesque town of Morzine, nestled in the French Alps.  This exceptional program has allowed the students to develop and practice their language skills while exploring the stunning surroundings and taking part in a wide range of activities.

  • Empowering Students for a Safer Summer: Vital Safety Lessons and Resources Shared Ahead of School Holidays

    In preparation for the school holidays, students have been learning about staying safe over summer. They watched an assembly delivered by Miss Holmes, Designated Safeguarding Lead, which covered water safety, online safety, physical and mental health, and financial hardship, amongst other things. On Tuesday, students were able to speak with Preeti from The Base who gave them information on drugs, substances and alcohol. Lots of students visited the Safer Summer stand over lunchtime and took away leaflets and resources.

  • Immersed in History and Inspired by Dracula: Year 7 Students Explore Whitby Abbey

    A group of students from Year 7 were thrilled to have the opportunity to visit Whitby and explore the ruins of the Abbey as part of their history lessons.  The trip provided them with a chance to immerse themselves in the historical context of the Abbey and learn about its significance.

  • Year 11 Leavers’ Gala Ball: A Night of Glamour and Celebration

    Year 11 students celebrated the culmination of their school days at Thornhill Community Academy with a fabulous Gala Ball.  The special event was a great success, with students embracing the opportunity to dress up and make lasting memories of their time at high school.  The atmosphere was filled with excitement and a sense of accomplishment as students and staff gathered together to celebrate this special milestone.

  • Students rewarded with a summer treat

    The final day of the May half term was marked by rewarding students who had achieved good attendance and maintained a good behaviour record with a summer treat.  All those who had successfully met the Academy’s targets were rewarded with an ice cream treat and all students were able to wear non-uniform clothing.

  • Students participate in workshop led by West Yorkshire Police

    Police Officers from the Kirklees District Early Action Team worked with students from Year 8 and Year 9 as part of the PEAK (Positive Engagement Against Knives) project. The project supports young people and their wider communities and helps them feel safer, realise their potential, and improve community cohesion.

    A group of Academy students gave an outstanding performance of Othello at Barnsley Civic, on 29th March, when they took part in the Shakespeare Schools Festival. They performed alongside two other Secondary schools on the night.

  • We are delighted that Ofsted have rated TCA overall as a ‘Good’ school, with an ‘Outstanding’ judgement in one area

    Staff and students of the Academy are delighted to have received a ‘good’ rating under the new Ofsted education inspection framework.  The report follows an inspection of the Academy that took place in February in which inspectors rated the Academy overall as ‘good’ with ‘outstanding’ leadership and management.
