Police Officers from the Kirklees District Early Action Team worked with students from Year 8 and Year 9 as part of the PEAK (Positive Engagement Against Knives) project. The project supports young people and their wider communities and helps them feel safer, realise their potential, and improve community cohesion.
A group of Academy students gave an outstanding performance of Othello at Barnsley Civic, on 29th March, when they took part in the Shakespeare Schools Festival. They performed alongside two other Secondary schools on the night.
Staff and students of the Academy are delighted to have received a ‘good’ rating under the new Ofsted education inspection framework. The report follows an inspection of the Academy that took place in February in which inspectors rated the Academy overall as ‘good’ with ‘outstanding’ leadership and management.
Students in Year 8 were amazed to see and handle rainforest animals in the Academy as part of their Geography study day.

A group of nine students from Year 11 and Year 10 travelled to the Leeds Road Training Complex in Huddersfield to compete in an U16’s 6-aside Football tournament hosted by Kirklees College.
As part of World Book Day Academy students were able to take part in the fun of a 'Bring and Buy' book sale that was held in the Academy’s library to promote children’s books and reading.
We were delighted to welcome former student Sarah Speight back to the Academy when she paid our students a visit to speak about her career as an Architect as part of our Inspirational Speaker programme.
A group of four students from years 8 & 9 and four students from years 10 & 11 travelled to Upper Batley High School to take part in a Table Tennis Tournament. All the students represented the Academy with a great sense of pride and enthusiasm.
A series of exciting and informative media workshops led by Michael Longhi, Talent and Inspiration Manager, from Channel 4 Schools were held for groups of Academy students in Years 7 and 9.
Congratulations to Alex Harrison, one of our Year 10 students, on receiving his black belt 1st Dan in karate.
