We were extremely delighted to be selected by the Government for our students to take part in a film for the global climate change summit at COP26. Headteacher, Mr Burton and three of our students worked with the Department for Education on the video, which promotes the importance of the new National Education Nature Park.
The Academy is committed to the development of students’ literacy skills and ERIC time is designed to further students’ language acquisition and equip them with the literacy skills they will need for success in life.
Learning how to perform CPR is an extremely important skill that could save someone’s life. With training from doctors, paramedics and ambulance staff Year 10 students at the Academy had the opportunity to learn how to perform CPR should they ever have the need to do so.
Following the successful completion of the Academy’s Prosper Peer Mentor training programme a group of year 10 students were recognised for their achievement when they were awarded with badges and certificates that were presented by Headteacher, Mr Burton.
During the week first week of the summer holidays we were delighted to be able to welcome a large number of children from Year 6 to our summer school.
We were delighted to welcome prospective students and their parents to the Academy during our annual Open Evening.
We were delighted to welcome our Year 11 students back to the Academy to collect their examination results.
Due to current COVID restrictions our Year 6 Transition Day will now take place as an online only event.
A series of art workshops, run in association with Kirklees College, were held at the Academy for students in Year 9 which were inspired by the work of Antony Gormley. A new sculpture by world-renowned sculptor Antony Gormley is on display on the rooftop at the new Kirklees College Pioneer Higher Skills Centre in Dewsbury.
At the Academy we are working towards achieving the Carnegie School Mental Health Award through Leeds Beckett University. This award shows our commitment to mental health and emotional wellbeing and will be a great accolade. In order to achieve the award, all members of the school community need to work together.
In our Assembly we have been promoting the ‘Enjoy Water Safely’ campaign of the Royal Life Saving Society, UK.
