U16's Football Tournament

A group of nine students from Year 11 and Year 10 travelled to the Leeds Road Training Complex in Huddersfield to compete in an U16’s 6-aside Football tournament hosted by Kirklees College.

We got off to great start winning our first game against Huddersfield Grammar 1-0. This was followed by a disappointing 1-0 loss against Honley High School, as they were the stronger team in that game. However, the boys regained their focus and bounced back with two more wins over North Huddersfield Trust A and B team, winning both games comfortably, putting us through to the knockout stage as league leaders.

The knockout game against North Huddersfield A Team played out similar to the previous meeting with Thornhill winning 2-0, putting us into the final where we would meet Honley once again.

In the final, Honley struck first going 1-0 up, but again, the boys showed a lot of character to work their way back into the game, drawing the game level at 1-1, eventually finishing the game as the stronger of the two teams. Unfortunately, we were unable to score a winner and the game had to be decided on penalties. Honley held their nerve and won 4-3 on penalties finishing as overall winners and Thornhill finishing as runners up.

We are so proud of the team and the character they showed through the tournament. Well done boys!
