A Virtual Celebration for World Book Day

This year to mark World Book Day, which took place on Thursday 4th March, staff from the Academy’s English department held a series of special World Book Day lessons in which our students have been given the opportunity to take part in a variety of virtual competitions.

There are four competitions for students to take part in and students can submit their entries online.  The competitions include writing a short story, creating a book review, making a book in a box or designing their own book character.  Students can find further information about the competitions via our online learning platform or by downloading our poster from the link at the bottom of this page.  There is still time to enter any of the competitions as the closing date for entries is Friday 12th March.

During the lessons students also took part in a ‘masked reader’ challenge where they watched video clips featuring ‘disguised’ members of staff reading an extract from one of their favourite books. They then had to work out who the member of staff was.

We will also be distributing World Book Day book tokens. These will be sent to students by email along with details as to how these can be redeemed.

World Book Day is an annual celebration of authors, illustrators, books and most importantly reading.  We were delighted to host a celebration of this day even though it had to be done online.  We hope that students enjoyed the lessons and will be challenged to take part in our online competitions.
