Alpine Adventure: Year 10 students excel during work experience visit at Morzine, France

In an exciting and enriching opportunity, a group of Year 10 students from the Academy have been participating in a work experience visit at the Alpine Language School in the picturesque town of Morzine, nestled in the French Alps.  This exceptional program has allowed the students to develop and practice their language skills while exploring the stunning surroundings and taking part in a wide range of activities.

As part of their introduction to Morzine, the students embarked on a captivating treasure hunt, which led them through the town's charming streets.  The adventure served as a delightful way for them to discover the local landmarks and soak up the unique atmosphere of the region.

During their time in Morzine, the students have been engrossed in a range of diverse activities.  They enjoyed a scenic walk to the magnificent Cascade de Nyon waterfall, immersing themselves in the breath-taking natural beauty of the area.

At the Alpine Language School, the students continued their French language lessons and participated in housekeeping training, ensuring they honed their practical skills.  One highlight of the program was learning how to create a local French speciality.  Students worked in teams under the direction a chef to skilfully prepared a typical French dish known as tartiflette.  This culinary endeavour showcased the students' dedication to embracing the local culture and their passion for gastronomy.

In addition to language and culinary activities, the students indulged in Design Technology lessons, where they had the opportunity to create traditional wood carvings.  These hands-on sessions enabled them to appreciate the artistry and craftsmanship of the local culture.

The visit was led by Mrs Walker, Head of Modern Foreign Languages, with the support of several other members of staff.  Both staff and students thoroughly enjoyed the fortnight’s experience, and we are delighted that our students were able to greatly benefit from this valuable learning opportunity.
