Year 10 students gained valuable insight into the working world by participating in a comprehensive work experience programme during a week off from their regular lessons. The initiative aimed to provide students with an understanding of various career options and equip them with essential skills for the future.
Led by staff from the English department, Academy students were given the opportunity to visit Shakespeare's Globe Theatre in London. The visit was arranged to enrich their classroom studies, as all students in years 7 to 9 have studied a Shakespeare play during the past academic year.
The school band was pleased to represent the Academy when they performed at the 'Sounds like Teen Spirit' festival, which took place in Phipps' Hall at the Richard Steinitz building, University of Huddersfield.
We are very pleased to announce that Mr Naylor, our Learning Resources Manager has been ordained in ministry for The Church of England.
Year 11 students recently marked the end of their school days at the Academy with a spectacular Gala Ball. The event was hugely successful and greatly enjoyed by the students who took full advantage of the opportunity to dress to the nines and create enduring memories of their high school journey. The atmosphere buzzed with excitement and pride as students and members of staff came together to commemorate this significant milestone.
Students from Year 7 were treated to a captivating concert performance by the renowned &Piano group as part of their week-long tour of schools in Kirklees and Calderdale. The group, known for their mission to introduce classical music to students and expand their musical horizons, delivered an engaging musical experience that created an inspiring impression on the young audience.
A group of Year 10 students embarked on a once-in-a-lifetime journey, sailing the high seas from Southampton on a week-long voyage, accompanied by Miss Hardy and Mr. Hall.
A group of Academy students from Year 9 and Year 10 were given the opportunity to visit the Huddersfield Giants Stadium. They were selected to take part in the visit for demonstrating good behaviour and attendance at the Academy. Future rewards will continue to be given to students who meet our good behaviour and attendance standards.
We have been delighted to host a transformative two-day workshop led by Tender, focusing on fostering healthy relationships amongst secondary school students. The workshop, led by expert facilitators Dean and Liz, aimed to equip students with the necessary skills to build and maintain healthy relationships, identify harmful ones, and enhance their peer mentoring and presentation abilities.
A group of Year 10 students have embarked on an inspiring journey, guided by their teacher, Mr Hazi, and supported by business advisor Abi Culley from the Link group. Their mission was to create something special and that would have appeal to members of the public. The students created SoulScent Candles.
We were extremely fortunate to host Joe and Erin from the University of Leeds Outreach Program, who delivered two bespoke sessions to a group of our Year 11 students. The topics covered were 'Managing Study Time and How to Revise' and 'Managing Exam Anxiety'.
