Year 7 and 8 Students Explore Careers in the Bus and Travel Industry

Year 7 and 8 students took part in an engaging and interactive careers session delivered in partnership with Ahead Partnership, focusing on the wide range of opportunities available within the bus and travel industry.

Students had the opportunity to hear directly from industry professionals, including Helen Redford from Arriva, Mubs Mahmed MBE from First Bus and Kel Pizzuti from Transdev, with Faron Convey from Ahead Partnership supporting and facilitating the session.

The interactive panel gave students the chance to ask questions and discover that working in the bus industry involves much more than simply driving a bus. Students learned about the variety of careers available, including apprenticeships and other routes into the industry. They were also surprised to discover some of the technology and safety features used on buses, including the fact that some buses now use AI technology to help drivers.

The session also explored appropriate behaviour on public transport and how students can report antisocial behaviour, helping them to understand the importance of staying safe and behaving responsibly when travelling.

When reflecting on the day, students highlighted a number of things they had learned, including that buses are safe, bus drivers have a wide range of responsibilities, and there are many different career opportunities within the bus industry.

Students were also encouraged to think about how the session could influence their future choices. Their reflections included working hard at school, focusing on gaining good work experience, considering an apprenticeship and becoming more confident using buses.

It was a valuable opportunity for our students to learn more about an industry that they use every day, while also opening their eyes to the range of exciting careers and pathways available to them in the future.

A big thank you to Ahead Partnership, Arriva, First Bus and Transdev for inspiring our students and giving them an insight into the world of work.
